The ranch was established on an old cattle ranch, and the charm of that simpler way of life is still plenty evident in every aspect of the Running R. Sitting out in the evening, you’ll see how the country must have looked years ago when the plows and machinery that are now decoration were used to work the land.
 

We are nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country where there’s a photo opportunity around every corner. Vegetation and ground cover is mainly comprised of live oak, Texas oak, cedar, cactus and yucca with a multitude of native grasses. You can’t see the roads or hear any busy traffic, just the sounds of nature combined with views so amazing and changeable they’ll take your breath away.

The Running R Ranch is a dude ranch with its focus on horseback riding.

We ride daily into the ‘Hill Country State Natural Area’. The park with over 5,500 acres adjoins our 230 acres and is centered on what was one of the county’s best known private ranches until it was donated to the state of Texas in the 1970s. The state park offers over 40 miles of trails and boasts the highest point in Bandera County, and while we can’t take you to the top of that mountain, we can climb high enough to see for miles!
