Experience the best horseback riding in the Texas Hill Country!

We are proud of our herd of 35 horses. Every one of them has been handpicked to suit a certain type of rider, and we’re experts at selecting just the right horse for you.

If you’ve never been on a horse before, prepare to get very comfortable and to learn something new. Even if you’ve owned your own horse and been riding your entire life, you’re going to love how responsive our animals are and how amazingly they handle this varied terrain.

When you walk into our large barn you’ll see everything from Quarter Horses, Paints and Appaloosas to Mustangs and Thoroughbreds. Our children’s ponies are all the sweetest they could be and everyone is welcome at feeding time or to groom their own horse and learn something about Western tack from our experienced wranglers. If you want your children to be exhausted at the end of a long day, send them up when it’s time to clean stalls and we’ll make sure they come back to you good and tired!

Of course you’ll ride two hours a day as standard and it’s your choice as to whether you take those hours as two one-hour rides on our property or a two hour ride into the adjoining 5,500 acre State Park. If you’re here to see as much of the countryside as possible, saddle up with us for a four or five-hour ride one day. Take lunch with you on the trail and get to experience once in a lifetime views.

We do things differently at the Running R. It’s our philosophy that you shouldn’t have to ride in a large group on a horse just randomly selected for you. We find out as much information as we can about your previous riding experience to make your time on horseback all the more enjoyable. When we organize our trail groups every morning you can be sure we’ll take your personal preferences into consideration. We do everything possible to make your ride better and if you loved your horse from the day before, we’ll do our utmost to ensure you get to ride him again.

Experienced riders from all backgrounds will love the challenge of trails that wind up hillsides and through creek beds. Have fun loping your horses on long stretches of open countryside in the state park, or negotiating your way around rocky outcrops and tree-lined trails.
