WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT THE RUNNING R. FROM RALF AND IRIS TO THE COOKS TO THE WRANGLERS. ALL OF THE STAFF WERE SOME OF THE BEST HOSTS THAT I HAVE EVER MET ON A HOLIDAY. ALWAYS SAID WOULD NEVER GO SAME PLACE TWICE. I WILL BE GOING THERE AGAIN. MY FOUR CHILDREN FROM 8 YEARS TO 13 YEARS LOVED IT AND CRIED WHEN WE HAD TO GO. IT WAS NOT A FAST PACE, IT WAS JUST RIGHT FOR ME. THANK YOU.

WOW.....what a beautiful ranch and vacation. As you leave the hustle and bustle of the city and drive out towards Bandera, you get a glimpse of what is in store for you: Peace & Quiet. Out the city, past the river, adjoining the State Park you see the welcoming white gates of the Ranch. Up the driveway, past the horses and you see the welcoming office of the R. EVERY detail is attended to as you are welcomed like family. Awaken in the morning and sneak in for some coffee, and listen to the quiet. The horses are heading towards the barn as the wranglers start to show. Breakfast is near, but not before the morning chores! (OPTIONAL) Helping with the horses was a learning and relaxing experience as these beautiful creatures love their morning groom. Wranglers sattle and then the breakfast triangle rings! It's time to eat!
The Food.....five star! The company at breakfast....six star, and the rides and wranglers.....seven stars! One, two, three or five hours...what's your preference for the ride you're asked as your morning begins to take shape. You answer between bites and the schedule is done! Melissa, the head wrangler is usually running around getting the guests taken care of; come to think of it, does she ever get to eat???
The trails are exciting and the deer, wild boar and majestic views will leave your breathless. Sitting atop a ridge and realizing it was the last Commanche attack place, or on yet another and viewing Twin Peaks with awe...you will enjoy it! Crossing rivers atop a horse makes you forget every worry in the world.
Try to get Ike.....GREAT Horse! He tolerated me like a champ....
Back in time to get off the saddle, eat some lunch, there's that bell again! And then off to explore the park some more in the afternoon. Ride as much as you like, and your body can endure!
EVERYONE at the ranch attends to your needs as if you were royalty. You quickly feel like family, and I understand if you have a special event like a birthday or anniversary, you might find something special for you as well!
From kids to adults....there is something for everyone here. When the hot day is over, take a dip in the pool and then relax in your cabin. Evening comes, its time to go into town and get some dinner and then catch the local rodeos! See the West, experience the West, and relax in Texas style at the Ranch!
Thank you to everyone there: Iris, Ralph, Melissa, Darrell, Annita, Tanya and all! You all are family now and loved just the same.

The Running R Ranch was amazing. We just got back a two days ago after having a road trip for our high school graduation. We loved it so much and are definetly going to make it an annual thing! So I can't wait to see you all again next summer! I went horse back riding for the first time and you guys must admit I didn't do too bad. I was scared of course, but you all made it so much fun and easy to do with all the horses that are very well trained for beginners. We didn't let the burn ban stop us from having s'mores. I made s'mores for the first time too in the bar-b-que pit. The pool was so nice and I enjoyed late night swims. I can't wait to go back! I am starting to save for it now so hopefully we can stay longer! See you in a year!

I have stayed at the ranch twice now, most recently last summer. Enjoyed it tremendously and being an experienced english rider found it exciting to try out western! I very much fell in love with Linus, riding him out on most rides, and ending up loving him a lot :)
Will definitely be coming back again some time soon.
Love and hugs to everyone, Amy x

Iris & Ralph certainly know the magic on how to make a most exciting but relaxing stay on their dude ranch along with the fabulous team of staff that work extremely hard to make it that way.The wranglers Alan and Darryl that entertain you constantly either on the trail or on the dance floor but always have your safety in mind at all times.Mellissa, who can read you like a book and just knows exactly which mount to give you ,David sends his personal thanks for the experience of Lakota to her. I must mention the food was hearty and plentiful and I will never forget trying to beat you Iris to the table for the last of the whiskey sauce!!!
Finally those nights as dusk fell when the crickets began to sing and the stars appeared to be falling out of the sky, when all the small creatures came to look curiously at you while you relaxed on your terrace after a satisfying day.Much, much more, we could go on forever. Thanks to every-one and you all had better be there next year!!!

What a fabulous trip!! We took 5 days for my daughter's high school graduation present & we've left with memories for a lifetime. We felt truly welcomed and laughed all week long with some really FUN folks. Everything was ideal-food, accomodations, wranglers (especially!!!) Hard to come back home. While our cowboy hats might look a little funny in suburbia NC, we'll wear them with Texas pride. Thanks so much to all of the staff for everlasting happy thoughts. Our love to you all, Jeffrey & Tindall Knotts

I have to echo what Kellie Kinslade said, we were there at the same time and on our honeymoon to boot. Everyone was not only attentive, they were affectionate. We loved that. Even though rain prevented us from taking one ride, we thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the covered porch in the quiet of nature, playing cribbage or reading. The stars at night are so very beautiful there. Like you could reach out and literally touch the Milky Way and the Big Dipper.
Melissa and Alan especially, but also Darryl and Justin took extra special care of me and Melissa wisely matched me with a horse named Walker (named because, you guessed it, he likes to walk..like a turtle sometimes.) But he was absolutely what I needed and it didn't take long to become very attached to him.
There is nothing like getting up in the morning, listening to the birds wake up, go to the Dining Hall and have Art's great breakfast, then to go for a ride and come back to another awesome meal.
We fell in love with Running R Ranch and everyone there. Iris and Ralph do hospitality like no one else in the world. We met people from all over the world and were amazed when they told us this was their 6th, 7th or 8th annual visit to Running R. But we could easily understand why.
We only live an hour away. We got home last night and missed it already. We can't wait to go back home to the Running R Ranch.

The Kinsland Family
To prospective guests of the Running R, I have only one word for you..."GO!!"
My family and I just spent a week at the Running R, our first trip to the ranch. It was unquestionably the best vacation we've ever had. I very highly recommend it.
Our two daughters, ages 9 and 7, completely fell in love with the ranch, the horses, and the wranglers! My husband and I were thoroughly impressed with the wrangers' attentiveness to the girls and their every need. All of the wranglers were extremely conscientious of the girls' safety as well as their interests. And, the wranglers were just a lot of fun! Even our 9-year-old commented on how attentive the wranglers were and how they made her feel special.
For my husband and me, it was the most relaxing trips we've ever taken. One of the best things about staying at the Running R is that everything you need or want is right there at the ranch. You don't have to get the in car for anything. We loved that. The other guests were interesting and fun to talk to. We met people from all over and had the chance to learn about other places. Our girls had a blast playing with the other kids and getting to know new people.
We especially enjoyed the wildlife in Bandera County. We saw dozens of deer (including fawns) as well as foxes, wild hogs, raccoons, and exotic game. The town of Bandera has deer grazing on the front lawns of homes and businesses. Our girls loved that!
The food at the ranch was superb. The chef was very personable and attentive as well, checking on us at every meal to be sure everything was just right. The homemade chicken and dumplings were the best I've ever had!
If you visit the Running R and want to have dinner in town (Bandera), I highly recommend visiting The Bricks restaurant. It has a beautiful view and the food was superior and reasonably priced. It also had a broad selection of items as well as a kids' menu. You'll love it.
The rooms and bathrooms were extremely clean. We were 100% satisfied with the accommodations.
Of course, the horses were the central attraction for us all! I was quite impressed with how well trained and behaved the horses were. As our first ride was approaching the barn, I fully expected our horses to pick up the pace, at least a little, as horses usually do when the barn is in sight. We rode every day for a week, and not one time did any of the horses pick up speed as they headed towards the end of the ride. I think that says it all--it's a clear sign of excellent training and handling. The horses were very responsive to the reins. That also impressed me since "line horses" tend not to be attentive to individual riders. And yet, the horses clearly understood their job is to follow in line behind the horse in front. I felt quite safe, and my husband and I felt secure about allowing our girls to ride the horses chosen for them by the wranglers.
To the Running R: thank you for one of the best times of our lives. To Alan, Melissa, Darryl, and Justin (the wranglers): thank you for taking great care of our girls and entertaining them as well! You are appreciated!
We will be back!
